Fundraisers managed to “duck and dive” to raise money for a Bury youngster with a life threatening disease.

Ryan Griffin, the brother of four-year-old Annabelle, organised a sponsored dodgeball competition at Bury College with classmates, which raised £130.

Annabelle, of Wilby Close, Brandlesholme, suffers from Vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a rare condition which means the slightest incident could leave her needing hospital treatment.

Family and friends sponsored the first and second year BTEC business students who took part.

Ryan, aged 16 and a former Tottington High School pupil, said: “When I first mentioned doing something I was unsure if it would really happen, but then my class came up with this idea and I was really happy.”

Annabelle’s parents, Jared and Sarah, have embarked on a campaign named Annabelle’s Challenge to raise awareness of the condition and fundraise.

Since the campaign was launched in May they have raised more than £14,600 for Ehlers-Danlos Support UK, a charity which aims to support people suffering the syndrome.

A charity ball at the Bolton Albert Halls in October raised more than £6,000, and another similar event, named Annabelle’s Challenge Diamond Ball, will be held at the Village Hotel in Bury on June 6 next year.

The business students are already brainstorming ideas for their next charity event for the Woodbank Primary pupil, with a fun run and a fancy dress day on the cards.
