Ofsted turnaround for Radcliffe holiday club after second visit from inspectors
STAFF at a holiday sports club criticized by a government education watchdog are celebrating a turnaround after a second visit by inspectors.
In October staff at QFirstSports, based at St Marys RC School, lodged a complaint with Ofsted after being told to improve safeguarding and CRB checks – measures they claimed were already in place.
The report published after the original inspection stated the holiday club was not meeting the full requirements of the childcare register and imposed actions to ensure children were kept safe.
But after a second visit last month, Ofsted have now found QFirstSports fully compliant with regulations despite the facility changing nothing since the first inspection. Manager Nicola Cleaver said: “We received a letter from Ofsted stating after a further inspection we are now fully compliant with all their regulations and will remain on the register, which we are extremely happy about it.
“Ofsted haven’t apologised or said they were in the wrong but the information shown to the second inspector was exactly the same as what the first inspector saw.
“The inspector rang on Monday morning and came and inspected that afternoon so nothing could have been changed within a matter of hours.”
The club, which looks after up to 70 children a day, provides sports coaching and other activities through local sports clubs and playworkers.
The Ofsted evaluation did not take place during a school holiday, meaning there were no children attending and the inspector was only able to look at paperwork.
Nicola added: “We still believe we always have and will continue to run a safe and fun sports holiday club which children and parents love and keep coming back to.
“Our holiday clubs have been so successful this year that in February 2014 we will also be running at St Andrew’s C of E Primary in Ramsbottom.”
A spokesperson Ofsted said: “Ofsted does not comment on individual inspections, as the evidence in our reports speaks for itself.”
