Motorists are facing delays after a car overturned near the Edenfield bypass this morning.
The incident, which took place around 7.15am between the Edenfield bypass and Bury Road, involved a blue Peugeot 106 crashing into a lamppost.
An ambulance was on the scene, and the female driver had to be removed the car on a spinal board and was taken to hospital.
The road was later reopened at around 8.50am.
There is congestion on the A56, which is backed up to junction one of the M66 at Ramsbottom, and other routes nearby have also been affected.
Drivers are advised to use a diversion which is in place via the A56 and the A681.
