CALLOUS thieves stole cash from a disabled man as he slept at his home in Whitefield.

Shortly after the 86-year-old man’s carer had left the house in Roch Crescent, burglars let themselves in through an unlocked door.

As the pensioner slept, they stole £800 worth of coins kept in a tin, as well as a ring, a pensions book and a savings book, at 10.30am on Wednesday, January 8.

A Whitefield police spokesman said: “This was a shocking theft by criminals who have shown no empathy whatsoever for an elderly and severely disabled man who slept while this happened.

“We would appeal for anyone who has any information whatsoever about those responsible to get in touch with us by calling 101.”
