A MAN who was on a pub roof for two nights came down from the building in the early hours of this morning.

The 54-year-old, who has not been named, climbed onto the roof of Famous Game Cock Inn in Rochdale Old Road, but came down at 4.30am after talking to police negotiators.

It is understand the man has done the same thing at the same place previously, when he came down unhurt after 17 hours.

The man had been on the roof for 28 hours.

A police spokesman said: "Officers attended and found the 54-year-old man had just left the Fairfield General Hospital, which is located opposite the pub, and climbed up to the roof.

β€œHe was throwing tiles off the roof. After talking to negotiators, the man came down through the pub this morning.”

Police closed Bell Lane at Willow Street in both directions so the junction could be used as a police operations point.
