A LANDMARK fish and chip shop has re-opened in Bury town centre.

The well-known former Corn Market in Haymarket Street has been rescued from closure and is trading under the new name of Kitchen 101, and promoting healthier eating.

The re-opening of the old Corn Market, which for many years was owned and run by the late Fred Bowen, comes after the business closed its doors last year.

It is being run by 101 Group and is its third business investment in the town.

Gary Price, director of the 101 Group, said: “We have invested £40,000 in the business. We’ve retained the Corn Market sign inside although it’s now called Kitchen 101.

“I can remember the shop from when I was a kid. It has a cafe at the front with five tables and 10 tables in the lounge restaurant.”

In addition to the traditional chip-shop menu, food such as porridge, granola and yoghurts will be included.

Gary added: “We are pushing the healthier-eating options side. This ties in nicely with our gym and the regimes and diets of its members. We hope that people will come in either before or after their workouts.”

He added: “Myself and my business partner Adam Crowley were born in Bury and we know the town inside out.”
