Tuneful children hit all the right notes at a festival which saw a number of Bury schools join up in harmony.

The Bury Voices Together event held at The Met brought together choirs from six Bury schools, instrumental and vocal soloists, and Bury Music Centre ensembles, with professional musicians providing an accomp-animent for two concerts.

Choirs from Elms Bank Specialist Arts College, Bury and Whitefield Jewish School and Christ Church Primary performed last Tuesday, while St Joseph and St Bede Primary, St Marie’s Primary and Chesham Primary appeared the following night.

They performed a number of their own individual pieces which they had rehearsed in school, and combined to perform a mass sing-along of the Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Webber track, Sing.

Organised in collaboration between The Met and Bolton Music Service, Bury Voices Together is aimed at increasing the number of opportunities for children to become involved with music.

The events has come about through the Greater Manchester Music Hub, an educational partnership which includes nine local councils and 14 regional partner organisations.David Agnew, the director of The Met, said: “It was a great event. We had hundreds of schoolchildren who really shined and performed brilliantly.

“From our point of view, it is great to work in the community, and show children the different routes they can get involved in music in the future if they want to stick with singing by performing in a professional venue.”
