BURY actress Suzanne Shaw has revealed that she suffered from painful stomach cramps whilst filming for ITV1’s Dancing On Ice show which was triggered by irritable bowel syndrome.

Viewers of the popular ice skating programme were shocked when mum-of-one Suzanne — a favourite to win — was unanimously voted out a week before the semi-finals.

But the 32-year-old now says that an introduction of goats’ milk into her diet at the end of last year has since been “life-changing”.

The former Hear’Say singer began feeling bloated and uncomfortable 10 years ago, but at first put it down to indulging in the wrong foods and being lactose intolerant.

But when the former pupil of St Mary’s Primary in Radcliffe, and St Gabriel’s High in Bury, was taken to hospital, she knew it was something more serious — and later discovered that she had IBS.

She said: “I have struggled with IBS for about 10 years now. I started feeling really bloated and sluggish and had awful pains in my stomach. I was even hospitalised at one point because I was in so much agony.

“I even struggled whilst on Dancing on Ice. There’s nothing worse than being a performer and feeling so down and awful.

“I’m lucky because I have not had to go on any medicines for my IBS, although I know many others have not been so lucky.”

Suzanne says that rather than taking medication, swapping cows’ milk for goats’ milk has been a “life- changing” decision for both her and her son Corey, nine.
