A WORKMAN is out of hospital after suffering serious injuries when he was crushed by iron gates at a quarry in Ramsbottom.

Two employees working at Marshalls, off Manchester Road in Shuttleworth, became trapped while trying to secure a metal gate at the plant in high winds.

One man, who suffered serious injuries to his face, pelvis and head, had to be airlifted to Wythenshawe Hospital.

He was later transferred to North Manchester General for rehabilitation, and was discharged on Tuesday.

The other man, who had suffered leg injuries, was taken to Fairfield Hospital for checks and was released the same day.

The Health and Safety Executive is now investigating the incident.
