Bury Castle lit up

Bury Times: Bury in words as part of the digital lights display set against Bury Castle Bury in words as part of the digital lights display set against Bury Castle

A LIGHT show exploring the town’s history was displayed at Bury Castle as part of a regional digital project.

A group of students from Bury Adult Learning Centre worked alongside a team of artists to create the show as part of The Big Digital Project, which is aimed at communities in areas of low engagement with the arts.

The group consisted of about 10 different nationalities, including people from the Iranian, Pakistani and Portuguese communities.

Artist Stephen Nuttall worked with the group for a month, alongside fellow artists Andy Mckeown and Peter Walker, to generate ideas for the show.

Bury Art Museum and The Fusilier Museum also helped the group by providing information from their archives.

The show, accompanied by audio, covered the entire front of Bury Castle.

Mr Nuttall, from Haslingden, said: “The group has created such a great piece. Obviously communication wasn’t always the best at times, but they have all done a fantastic job.

“The adults involved can take so much from this — it’s very unique and they all brought their own ideas to the table.”

Among those attending was the mother of disabled Bury youngster Joshua Wilson, while Joshua himself watched online.

The Big Digital Project was created by Let’s Go Global, a creative media organisation based in Salford’s MediaCityUK.
