A MAN has died after falling from a bridge over the M60 earlier this afternoon.

The motorway is currently blocked anti-clockwise between junction 17 at Prestwich and junction 18 at the Simister Island.

It is also blocked clockwise between junction 16 at the A666 and junction 17.

A man was seen falling from a bridge over a slip road at the Prestwich exit, before he collided with a number of cars.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and officers from the police's serious collision investigation unit are currently working at the scene.

One lane of the clockwise carriageway has now reopened.

It is expected that the anti-clockwise carriage will be closed until approximately 8pm.

The Highways Agency is advising drivers to leave the M60 at junction 19 and follow a black circle diversion along the A576, A6044 and A56 before rejoining the M60 at the Prestwich exit.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police on 101.
