POLICE are expected to release a witness appeal later today following a collision which left a ten-year-old boy with serious multiple injuries.

Bolton Road in Bury was closed in both directions yesterday between Haig Road and Kitchener Street and Mile Lane after an incident involving the youngster and a large horse box.

The boy was flown to Manchester Royal Infirmary with serious leg injuries and other multiple injuries via the North West Air Ambulance helicopter.

Fire crews from Bury and Whitefield and the tactical response unit from Leigh were at the scene to release the boy from the wreckage.

There were long tailbacks through Bury town centre and heavy traffic on a diversion through Ainsworth Road.
