POLICE are appealing for information and witnesses after a serious collision left a ten-year-old boy battling multiple injuries.

The youngster was crossing Bolton Road in Bury at the junction of Buckingham Drive at around 4.30pm yesterday when he was hit by a large Iveco horse box van. 

Fire crews from Bury and Whitefield and the tactical response unit from Leigh attended the scene to release the boy from underneath the back end of the vehicle, where he was trapped. 

He was flown to Manchester Royal Infirmary via the North West Air Ambulance helicopter with multiple injuries, including a serious injury to his leg.

The boy is still in hospital and is currently in a stable condition, police have confirmed. 

Sergeant Kevin Woodward from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “A young boy is in hospital with very serious injuries.

“We would urge anyone who saw the collision to contact us so we can establish what happened.”
