A 10-YEAR-OLD boy is in a stable condition in hospital after he was left with a serious leg injury in a road accident.

The boy, who has not been named, was crossing Bolton Road in Bury, at the junction of Buckingham Drive, at about 4.30pm on Friday when he was hit by a large Iveco horse box van.

Fire crews released the trapped boy, and he was airlifted to Manchester Royal Infirmary by the North West Air Ambulance helicopter suffering from multiple injuries, including a serious leg wound.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

Sgt Kevin Woodward, from the police's serious collision investigation unit, said: “We would urge anyone who saw the collision to contact us so we can establish what happened.”
