ELECTION bosses have apologised after a political party was allowed to use a slogan referencing murdered Fusilier Lee Rigby on their voting slips for elections on May 22, the first anniversary of his death.
The Electoral Commission said the decision to allow the Britain First party to use ‘Remember Lee Rigby’ on its European election voting slips was a mistake.
Fusilier Rigby served in the 2nd Battalion Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, whose spiritual home is in Bury. He was murdered by Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale last May.
The slogan will appear in voting slips in Wales, after it was too late to change them.
The Government says the commission should face a “full investigation”.
Cabinet Office Minister Greg Clark said: “It is sickening that anyone should attempt to make political capital out of Lee Rigby’s murder.”
