OFFICERS at Ramsbottom fire station certainly have the “Wow” factor For the team has been presented with Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service’s (GMFRS) first two WOW! Awards.

The accolades came after two separate nominations were made for their water safety presentation from the 11th Ramsbottom Brownies and Hazlehurst Primary School in Ramsbottom. Both nominations highlighted how impressed the children were with the presentation and the rescue equipment demonstrations given by the crew.

Lynn Clark, pack leader, 11th Ramsbottom Brownies, said: “Red Watch did a magnificent job explaining what they do and talking about water safety with the brownies.

“Then all the watch got involved in helping the brownies throw rescue lines and demonstrating various pieces of equipment.

“The brownies had a great time and we would like to thank Red Watch for going above and beyond the call of duty in preparing for our visit and staying longer than their shift to ensure our visit was a success.”

Natalie Lawton, from Hazlehurst Primary School, said: “Red Watch at Ramsbottom provided a really informative and engaging presentation about water safety. Our children were really engaged and learned a lot.”

WOW! Awards are given for outstanding customer service across many fields.

Red Watch accepted the awards from GMFRS Bury borough manager Pete Riley and Derek Williams, chief executive of WOW! Ltd.

Over the last year, GMFRS has piloted the WOW! Awards and invited members of the public to nominate staff for the accolade if they feel that an individual or team has particularly impressed them.
