A DEMENTIA support project needs the help of Bury residents to secure up to £25,000 in funding.

The Musical Memories project, which supports dementia sufferers through live music, group singing and use of percussion, has been nominated for community award funding from the Engage Foundation.

It is one of more than 80 projects in the running to receive community awards of up to £25,000, with recipients decided by an online public vote.

There are two Musical Memories groups in the borough, which meet at The Manna House in Irwell Street, Bury, and at Radcliffe United Reformed Church in Blackburn Street, Radcliffe.

David Stopford, Musical Memories project leader, said: “In the first year of running, we have brought significant health and well-being benefits to the members who attend sessions in both central Bury and Radcliffe.

“Now we want to push on and reach the whole of the Bury area with this valuable and fun service.”

Joyce Baron, a group member, added: “I love attending the sessions and by the time we have finished I often feel like Julie Andrews – ‘on top of the world’.”
