TRIBUTES have been paid to a Bury College student who died suddenly after suffering a severe asthma attack.

Qasim Abbas, aged 17, was taken to Fairfield Hospital from his home in Rochdale, and was later transferred for specialist treatment at Wigan Infirmary.

He died three days later on May 5, after suffering a heart attack and brain damage following the asthma attack.

His funeral took place at the Mustafa Islamic Centre in Rochdale last Wednesday.

The following day, friends, family and well-wishers descended on Bury College to pay tribute to him, and released balloons in his memory.

Qasim was studying for a BTEC in IT at Bury College.

College tutor Colin Redfearn said: “Qasim was a well-liked and popular student who built many friendships whilst at Bury College.

“He was an excellent student to teach and was always extremely considerate and helpful towards his peers.”
