TEENAGER Chelsea Edgar has a big local date in her diary — after fulfilling a busy schedule of events and engagements since she took the Miss Bury crown.

Chelsea’s next big engagement will be as one of the guests at Bury Lions Carnival to be staged on Sunday, June 8.

The 19-year-old’s most recent official appearance was to represent the town at the Miss England semi-finals in Nottingham.

Chelsea, from Radcliffe, and whose family live in Limefield Road, combines her Miss Bury activities with her fine art studies at Leeds College. “I have tried my best to be involved in the community, working towards a degree around the Miss Bury title,” she said.

Of her experience at the Miss England semi-finals, the student added: “It began with a gruelling extreme fitness boot camp, where beauty queens raced to the catwalk to win a place in the final.

“I didn’t realise how unfit I was. I would recommend anyone who goes through to the semi-finals to train every day for it.”

Since taking the Miss Bury sash last September, Chelsea’s engagements have included switching on the Christmas lights at Bury’s Mill Gate centre, judging a “trashion” show and supporting recycling in schools.

She has supported fundraising for Cancer Research UK, launched Debenhams’ swimwear and made appearances on Bolton FM.

Chelsea is encouraging girls who would like to follow in her footsteps to take part in the next Miss Bury contest, the final of which will take place at The Met on October 6.

She added: “If any girls feel like they would love to do something exciting, get involved in the community and make some brilliant friends, then they should apply.”
