FAMOUS female faces from Bury are urging the town’s girls and women to get active and have fun.

Coronation Street actress Jennie McAlpine, retired England netball player Tracey Neville, and Hollyoaks star Nikki Sanderson, have been unveiled as I Will If You Will (IWIYW) ambassadors to help raise the profile of the campaign.

Nikki, aged 30, said: “I think this is a great campaign.

“Some people do struggle to find time to exercise and for health and fitness.

“With something like this, they are not saying put gruelling hours in at the gym but to do what you can, when you can.

“Get people involved, get your friends involved, go for a walk.”

Mini exercise taster sessions took place at the Mill Gate shopping centre, led by Julie Porter, Bury Leisure Studio coordinator, which gave the celebrity ambassadors an opportunity to try out the classes on offer across the borough. These include piloxing, a blend of pilates and boxing, and belrobics, an energetic mix of belly dancing and aerobics.

The Bury-born trio were also joined by IWIYW champions — residents at the heart of the campaign and building the movement to inspire women to get involved and get active throughout the summer.

Jennie, aged 30, who plays Fiz in Coronation Street, recently revealed she is expecting her first child with partner Chris Farr.

She said: “I must say, baby on the way, there’s no high impact for me, but it’s about family, it’s about community, it’s about encouraging your family, mum, sister, your grandma, people who live near to you—come for a walk with me.

“It’s not about expensive gyms and equipment.”

The campaign is urging people to pledge to take part in just 30 minutes of exercise for 10 weeks and, over the next four months, the celebrity ambassadors will be making numerous appearances across Bury.
