TWO Bury Council workers are swapping the office for the running track to raise money for Age UK Bury.
Liz Hodgkinson and Zena Shuttleworth are running the “We Love Manchester 10k”, which starts and finishes at the Sportcity running track, next to the Etihad Stadium, on July 13.
They both regularly work with older people in their roles in the council’s community and wellbeing department, and used this as inspiration to be fundraisers.
The pair have run together before and took it up as a means to get fit and socialise, but now want to push themselves to the next level.
Mrs Shuttleworth, aged 36, from Whitefield, said: “Our first race was the Race for Life last July. We raised over £600 as part of a group at work for Cancer Research.
“We then took part in the Salford 5k and got personal best times. This year, we chose to attempt a 10k. We wanted to raise money for a local charity, and chose Age UK Bury.”
Miss Hodgkinson, aged 24, from Stoneclough, added: “We have been running regularly for just over a year now.
“We try and attend a regular run in Heaton Park every Saturday to make sure we do at least 5k a week. We started to increase our distance and take part in races.”
