A BURY-based charity has launched an appeal in a bid to expand its service which allows less-able citizens the opportunity to shop independently.

Now in its 21st year, Bury Shopmobility will soon have its 5,000th member.

The charity, which receives no external funding, exists for the benefit of members who use scooters and wheelchairs to do their shopping in the town centre.

At the start of the year, Shopmobility, located in Minden Parade, received a donation of a new fourwheeled scooter, purchased in memory of a member who recently died.

Shopmobility chairman Don Reeve said: “Residents can contact us for more details of our low-cost membership.

"Also, local businesses may wish to consider promoting their business in the form of an advert on the rear of one of our vehicles”.

If anyone can sponsor a new scooter, or donate a good quality second-hand one, they can contact Shopmobility on 0161 764 9966 or email buryshop mobility@gmail.com.
