SWARMS of shoppers could not help but tap their feet to the beat as brass and concert bands, choirs and a samba group took to the streets.

Music-loving visitors were delighted on Saturday, when Bury Bandemonium returned to the town centre for the second year running.

Bloco Ashe Bury Community Samba Group launched the live music extravaganza with a performance in the Mill Gate Centre’s Market Square in the sunshine, before Bury Music Service and Hazlehurst Primary School Band played at the same location.

Greater Manchester Police Band and Bury Catholic Preparatory School wowed onlookers at Kay Gardens and travellers were entertained by Middleton Youth Band at the East Lancashire Railway.

The Derby High School Band and Tottington Public Band also played music on The Rock throughout the afternoon.

Deputy Mayor of Bury, Cllr Sharon Briggs, visited all the locations and thanked performers and audiences alike for turning out to enjoy the event.

Organiser Andrew Taylor, a retired police officer, said Bury Bandemonium 2014 had been “a brilliant success”.

He said: “The samba band did very well and was something different — everyone was having a good time. It was a sunny day anyway so people came shopping in Bury and the place was absolutely heaving. There was a fantastic atmosphere”

Next year’s spectacular is already planned for June 20.
