A Bury GP has been appointed to a new role in a bid to help transform health services in the borough.

Dr Alison Caldwell has taken up the position of GP Clinical Lead with Bury Community Services, part of Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust.

She will provide an important link between local GPs and NHS Bury Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).

Dr Caldwell, is a GP partner at Unsworth Medical Practice, and her daily face-to-face contact with patients will play a vital role in determining the best way forward for health services..

She will dedicate one session a week to the role, while continuing to see patients at the practice.

Dr Caldwell said: “I was looking for a new challenge and an opportunity to help to improve patient care in my area, in a time of financial constraints.

“I’m excited about this role and the opportunities it will offer to shape the future of health services. I’m looking forward to making a real difference to people’s lives and supporting a positive lasting legacy for future generations.”

Chairman of NHS Bury CCG, Dr Kiran Patel, said: “We are looking forward to working with her to develop and improve provision of community services and strengthen relationships within our GP community in Bury.”
