COMMITTED carers were recognised for the role they play in Bury with a special week of activities.

Bury Carers Centre celebrated the work of more than 20,000 carers across the borough who provide unpaid support for their family and friends.

During National Carers Week, day trips and outings were planned for the hard-working carers who attend the centre before the Mayor of Bury, Cllr Michelle Wiseman, met them at the end of the week.

Carers were invited on an outing to Liverpool, enjoying a museum tour, shopping, a ferry trip and big wheel ride, while a restaurant meal in Bury was also hosted.

The centre also held an event for carers who are black or of an ethnic minority which offered free threading, hand massages, henna and a Halal buffet.

Throughout the week, outreach programmes were held at pharmacies across the borough to identify more carers who live in and around Bury.

At the culmination of the week, Bury Carers Centre’s weekly coffee morning was visited by Cllr Wiseman.

Rhyannon Allen-Tucker, co-ordinator at the centre in Silver Street, said: “Our trip to the Flaming Dragon in Bury resulted in smiling faces and more than a few bulging waistlines.

“At our coffee morning, the Mayor addressed worries and issues the carers had and listened to everyone’s opinions and ideas about care services in Bury.

“From the money raised during Carers Week, Bury Carers Centre and all our carers are planning an exciting day trip in the summer.

“This is as a thank you for all the hard work that was put into making Carers Week such a success.”

All carers are welcome to attend the drop-in coffee morning at Bury Carers Centre between 10am and noon every Friday.
