Bury Times: Search for the best garden in Bury Search for the best garden in Bury

A GARDENING competition has been launched in Bury to give green-fingered tenants the opportunity to flaunt their skills.

Six Town Housing is searching for the best gardens in the borough with its Flower Power competition.

Categories include best individual garden, most improved garden, best pots and baskets, best sunflower, best communal garden, best edible garden, best school or youth club, contribution to the community and judges’ choice.

Entrants must live in a property owned or managed by Six Town Housing or live in one of their neighbourhoods, and people do not have to nominate their own garden.

Sharon McCambridge, chief executive of Six Town Housing, said: “This competition is a chance for people to show off their budding talent and make their garden the envy of their neighbourhood with a fantastic display.

“It’s a chance for them to get involved in an exciting event that brings people together and demonstrates what make Bury a great place to live”.

Last year there were 30 entries and it is hoped this year’s competition will see numbers double.

Prizes range between £50 and £100 in gardening vouchers and residents who call into the organisation’s headquarters in Knowsley Place can pick up free sunflower seeds.

For a nomination form: go to sixtownhousing.org and emailing it to getinvolved@sixtownhousing.org or pick up a paper copy from the Six Town Housing offices or in the borough’s libraries. The closing date for entries is July 23.
