PUT on some sturdy boots and have your camera poised.

The East Lancashire Railway (ELR) is gong full steam ahead with new photography courses.

The railway attraction is adding photography courses to its growing portfolio of experiences.

The new venture, which will run in conjunction with Birtle-based North West Photography Courses, provides camera enthusiasts with the opportunity to capture vintage steam and diesel engines, stunning scenery and the vibrant history and heritage that the area is famed for, in tutor-led sessions.

The full-day courses have a maximum capacity of six people and are suitable for photographers of all abilities, with expert tuition on camera modes, techniques, composition and post-production tailored to individual requirements.

They start at 9.30am and finish at 5pm with a review of the day’s images, and includes access to “behind the scenes” areas not open to the public.

ELR sales manager, Richard Barnett, said: “As a railway we are very lucky to have so many great photo opportunities along our 12-mile route and are delighted to offer visitors the chance to enhance their knowledge, skills and photo bank.”

The photography courses have been officially launched by Cllr Michelle Wiseman, Mayor of Bury, who said: “The East Lancashire Railway is very photogenic and will provide a marvellous venue for these new courses which I believe will make a good contribution to tourism in Bury and the surrounding area.”

The courses, which include a sandwich lunch, will run on selected dates until November.

The first course is scheduled for next Wednesday and costs £120 per adult, and must be booked. For details and to book call 0161 764 7790 or visit eastlancsrailway.org.uk/photographycourses
