12-hour football marathon raises £4,500 for poorly baby

FOOTBALL-mad fundraisers took part in a gruelling 12-hour soccer marathon to raise more than £4,500 to help a poorly baby.

Eight-month-old Mila Sherring from Bury was diagnosed with life-threatening condition Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC) in Marc.

TSC causes tumours to form on vital organs like the brain, kidneys, heart, lungs, eyes and skin and Mila faces many challenges.

There is no cure but new research is helping to find better treatments.

Her family need to raise about £40,000 for the treatment she requires in America.

On Sunday, staff from Rawtenstall-based JGM Agency staged a the marathon five-a-side “Matches for Mila” day at Play Football at Bury College’s Millennium Centre which use of the pitch for free. Twelve other sides took part.

JGM donated £500 into a prize fund for the team which won by the biggest margin.

Overall winners were Cameron BMS which donated the £500 to the Mila fund.

The exhausted JGM personnel were overwhelmed by the end of match day, having smashed their target The business says that with the total set to rise further, little Mila is one step closer to getting the treatment she needs. JGM’s managing director Julie Grady said: “The team are true champions in every sense of the word. Raising such a phenomenal amount of money for such a worthwhile cause is testament to their hard work, enthusiasm and unrivalled spirit.

“It was a day of great pride.”

Mila’s mum, Kathy-Anne Clark, said: “I can't believe how much they raised. What an amazing achievement.”
