VANDALS have smashed a concrete table tennis table in a park for a second time.

They damaged the table in Whitehead Park, Bury, forcing Bury Council workers to call game, set and match and remove it from the park.

Council officials say they now intend to site it in another park.

The table was installed in August last year, and was one of six tables put in parks across Bury after the council received funding from Sport England.

But the first table in Whitehead Park was broken within days. Cllr Tony Isherwood, council cabinet member for environment, said: “The vandals who did this must have heads as concrete as the table tennis table.

“Yet again, a small minority of idiots have spoiled it for everyone else.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the council on 0161 253 5353.
