GREAT British Bake Off fever hit a Greenmount school which saw children create more than a thousand sweet treats for charity.

Last Thursday, youngsters at Hollymount RC Primary School in Holly Mount Lane raised £296 for The Christie, Manchester’s specialist cancer hospital.

The Christie bear was guest of honour at the Great Hollymount Bake Off, which saw children design and bake their own biscuits.

The event was organised by determined friends Kerry Lyons and Kelly Dooley, who last year began a 12-month campaign to raise £20,000 for the charity.

The next fundraiser for Kerry, a nurse from Helmshore, and Kelly, a wedding organiser from Farnworth, is the Marcia Dooley and Peter Hamer Platinum Charity Ball tomorrow at Bolton Albert Halls.

The sell-out black tie ball for 250 guests will be the penultimate event in their fundraising calendar.

The event is in memory of Marcia Dooley, Kelly’s mother-in-law, and Peter Hamer, K erry’s father, who both died from cancer.

Kerry said: “Kelly and I have been overwhelmed by the response to our ongoing fundraising activities and this event is the culmination of lots of hard work which we are sure will realise into significant funds raised on the evening.

This is set to be a night to remember for all who attend.”

All funds raised by Kelly and Kerry will be split between The Christie’s general research and treatment and specific research into pancreatic cancer.
