FUNDRAISING took two very different turns for Annabelle’s Challenge ambassadors.

Last month, 62 intrepid volunteers took part in an abseil down Holcombe Hill’s Peel Tower to make £2,500 for the Brandlesholme charity.

The charitable daredevils who completed the 128ft challenge on September 28 included four members of the public who signed up spur-of-the-moment on the day after watching others complete the feat.

Annabelle’s Challenge raises awareness of life threatening condition Vascular Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (VEDS) the most serious form of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS).

The rare genetic illness causes collagen deficiency and means sufferers, including five-year-old Annabelle Griffin, are at daily risk of their internal organs and arteries spontaneously rupturing.

Annabelle’s parents Sarah and Jared Griffin, of Wilby Close, first launched their online campaign last year and after becoming an official registered charity earlier this year, Annabelle’s Challenge has raised more than £25,000 to date.

Casey Lynchey, a teacher at Holcombe Brook Primary School, organised the abseil with Burrs Activity Centre and several teachers from Woodbank Primary, where Annabelle goes to school, also took part.

Fundraisers,who did not have a head for heights, instead donned princess dresses for two Frozen-themed tea parties at the Village Hotel in Bury which raised £3,000.

The first Disney extravaganza for 100 guests on October 5 sold out within a week of going live and 200 youngsters and their families attended the second get together on Sunday (October 12).
