YOUNG people have no reason not to stay fit and healthy after taking delivery of a new gym to their school — thanks to members at Bolton Arena.

The gym was one of 176 fitness clubs in 10 countries taking part in the month-long “Let’s Move For A Better World” challenge run by gym equipment firm Technogym.

Members' efforts won state-of-the-art circuit training equipment for Rivington and Blackrod High School in Horwich.

Gwyn Hughes, commercial manager at USN Bolton Arena, said: "Our gym members and staff worked extremely hard to win the challenge so we could donate this fantastic equipment to the school.

"We have a long relationship with the school, working with them on our performance tennis programme and on the teenage health partnership, and we know this equipment will be put to good use by them and get young people moving more.”

Alex Bennett, marketing director of Technogym UK, said: "At Technogym we strongly believe in wellness as a social opportunity.

"Thanks to the immense effort of Bolton Arena and its members in winning the Let’s Move for a Better World challenge, Rivington and Blackrod High School now has a gym equipped by Technogym that students and staff can exercise on to improve overall health and wellbeing.

"It is a clear demonstration of the idea that when people exercise, they can benefit both themselves and their local communities.”

About 20,000 people took the challenge worldwide, training in gyms to collect 'moves' — Technogym’s unit of measure for movement.

The USN Bolton Arena gym was the UK winner with more than 350 members clocking up 2.3 million moves — the equivalent to 5,700 miles and nearly 360,000 more moves than any other gym in the country.
