AROUND 250 guests helped celebrate the life of Bury's very own "SuperJosh", the boy who touched the hearts of so many during his young life.

Teachers, medical professionals, friends and family from all over the UK gathered at Bury's Village Hotel to pay tribute to 14-year-old Joshua Wilson in a poignant celebration of his life.

Joshua, of Walshaw Road, Bury, died peacefully at his home earlier this month.

The inspirational youngster was diagnosed with a brain tumour at the age of three. Surgery left Joshua with complex physical needs. Last year, to celebrate his 13th birthday, his parents launched the Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour charity to raise money for children suffering similar conditions.

Last Friday night's event was a fitting tribute to the boy who attracted a huge following in his home town and nationwide, including Greater Manchester Police's Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy.

Attractions at the celebration included the Rock Choir, an Abba tribute, DJ, and photo booth, together with a host of raffle and tombola prizes. There were SuperJosh -themed balloons as well as a hotpot.

Joshua's mother, Dawn Fidler said: "The Village Hotel were amazing and really gave Josh a fantastic send-off. I want to say a huge thanks to Sam Gibbs and Gill Cooper for making it so special.

"Thank you to everyone who helped on the night and donated all the raffle and tombola prizes. We sold so many SuperJosh hoodies and T-shirts that everyone was wearing them.

"We held a huge SelfieforSuperJosh on the dance floor and stage which was brilliant. More than 100 people took part."

She added: "About 250 people came during the night, including Josh's school teachers, medical teams, the Lancashire Spinners and friends and family from all over the country from Josh's 14-year journey. An amazing and very emotional night celebrating the life of my boy."

A final figure is still being counted for how much was raised on the night for the Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour charity.
