A WEEK of fundraising activities reached an exciting climax for Bury College students when they revealed their grand total live on television.

Eight students and two members of staff travelled to Blackpool Tower to take part in the Children in Need live broadcast on Friday (November 14).

Students dug deep with a range of fundraising activities throughout the week which raised a total of £1,169.02 for disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.

Donations came from raffles, face painting and henna, table tennis competitions and bake sales.

Last Friday, all students were invited to don onesies and superhero costumes to throw wet sponges at members of staff.

James Greer, aged 17, is the leader of Bury College’s fundraising committee and organised the drive.

The former St Monica’s High School pupil, from Manchester, said: “We chose to do our part for Children In Need because we realised it was our responsibility to help those who are less privileged than ourselves.

“We aim to make a difference and to put a smile on children's faces by helping to make the small changes in their lives that can improve their whole world.”

Student learning mentor Nasreen Ashraf added: “There was a strong charitable spirit throughout the fundraising week and the trip to Blackpool was an exciting experience for all involved.

“We are very proud of our students, who have demonstrated a true awareness of citizenship.”
