RESIDENTS at a Bury care home "jumped" into the festive spirit with the help of disadvantaged youngsters.

A Christmas jumper party was held at Abbeydale Care Home, in Bolton Road, which was organised by young people supported by The Prince's Trust.

The day included afternoon tea with festive gifts, cakes and party games.

One of the teenagers involved in the day was 17-year-old Vicky Hall, who is starting work experience at the care home through the trust's Fairbridge programme, which aims to help disadvantaged young people with one to one support and group activities.

Vicky, from Bury, said: "I’ve always wanted to work in care but I just didn’t believe in myself, so when I got the job with Abbeydale I was thrilled.

"It’s such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. It’s been great that we’ve been able to put on such a lovely party for the residents. We all really enjoyed making it a special day for them and we hope they did too.”

Tim Marsh, from The Prince’s Trust, added: "We have had a brilliant day with the residents of Abbeydale and I know the young people loved making this enjoyable for them.

"A lot of the young people we help have very little confidence and won’t have done anything like this before so this has also been a great experience for them too.

"They put so much effort into making this extra special and did everything themselves from baking the cakes and making the gifts."
