A "SPECTACULAR" immersive theatre experience fit for all the family is set to take centre stage in Bury.

The Lost Carnival show will be held at the Burrs Country Park in May, with an audience of 15,000 expected to attend over the four-night run.

The show, which centres on the story of a large carnival that has been lost through time, will allow visitors to walk around several locations, enjoying attractions such as circus acts, music and theatre performances.

Organisers of the event are remaining tight-lipped about the exact nature and content of the show, but Rowan Hoban, director of social enterprise Wild Rumpus, which is behind the performance, says it is an event not to be missed.

Mrs Hoban said: "It will be a large-scale theatre event for families. They can walk around the site at their own leisure, and enjoy all of the different attractions.

"It is going to be a spectacular event for all the family, and will be running all evening and bring people together for a wonderful show."

The social enterprise is working in partnership with David Agnew from The Met, and has previously worked together for family activities staged at Ramsbottom Festival.

It is also behind the Just So Festival held in Cheshire, which is also family orientated, featuring a wide range of events such as musicians, theatre and art.

The story surrounding the event will be unveiled in the coming months, with a fictional radio documentary podcast already available on the event's website, as well as cryptic clues being unveiled on social media.

The show will be open to the elements, but Mrs Hoban said it will not dampen the spirits or threaten the staging of the event.

She added: "We have run a number of similar events in the past, and we find that people just muck in and put their wellies on. We will have a lot of indoor activities as well."

The event will be held on May 22, 23, 24 and 25. The audience will be given timed tickets, with the event being open from 4pm to 9pm.

Tickets cost £10, with children under the age of three allowed in free.
