A MAN broke into a 94-year-old woman’s house as she lay in bed.

At 11pm on January 20, the thief broke into her home on Park Road, Prestwich and walked upstairs.

He went into her bedroom and told her she would not be hurt as he was looking for money.

After she gave him some money, he then told her to stay in the bedroom as he searched the rest of the house.

He took a Citizen watch and an amethyst necklace on a gold plated chain and left.

The man was white, smartly dressed, and was wearing a Homburg style hat, long black boots and a scarf covering the lower half of his face.

Det Sgt Jen Hardman said: “Although the offender did not threaten the woman in any way, she is understandably upset that a man broke into her home, searched it and took property that does not belong to him.

“She has supplied a picture of the necklace and I would ask people to take a good look at it.

"Do you recognise it or have you been offered to buy it under suspicious circumstances? If you have, I would ask you to contact police.”
