GLASSES will be raised to toast the success of a popular Bury bar celebrating its tenth birthday this week.

The Blind Tiger in Bolton Street open its doors on February 25, 2005 – meaning its 10-year anniversary fell yesterday.

To celebrate, the indie and rock bar is holding a weekend of live music and events.

Tom Hingley, lead vocalist of the Inspiral Carpets, will play the venue tomorrow before The Case take to the stage on Saturday.

Bar staff have also involved ‘pub golf’ which will begin at The Blind Tiger at 5pm on Saturday.

Manager Greg Monk said: “The Blind Tiger opened its doors on Friday, February 25 2005 to create an indie/rock bar for the good people of Bury.

“They have helped us create a great atmosphere and bring live music to the town.

“We want to celebrate with everyone so anyone is welcome to come down and join in the fun over the weekend.”

On Sunday, the bar is hosting an invitation-only party between 2pm and 8pm with live music from Naked Stereo and The Rhasters before a DJ set until 3am.

Greg added: “I and owner James Morris, supervisor Beth Dennerly, Christopher resident DJ Buckley and all the bar staff would like to thank everyone who has been part of The Blind Tiger.”

The Blind Tiger was the launch venue for multi-venue music festival Glaston-Bury, which was founded by Christopher Buckley in 2008 and has since raised more than £75,000 for Bury Hospice.
