POLICE are no longer investigating an alleged rape in Radcliffe.
Officers appealed for witnesses after a woman in her twenties reported she was attacked from behind and raped on Banana Walk while she was out jogging.
But it is now understood that the rape, which was said to have happened on August 14 and was reported to police on September 2, was a false report.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “The investigation has concluded and no offenders have been arrested, but we are satisfied that the community is not at risk and we do not have a dangerous offender at large.”
The Radcliffe Times understands the case was dropped after there were found to be problems with evidence.
No one has been prosecuted in relation to making the false claim.
