A BURY community is coming together in aid of a 10-year-old tragically diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour.

Limefield youngster Stewart Sheridan was given the devastating diagnosis in February, and is currently a patient at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and having chemotherapy and radiotherapy at The Christie to try and shrink the tumour.

Friends and family held a fundraising day on March 21 at the Towler Inn in Walmersley Road, with more than £2,000 already donated in aid of Stewart, and to help his father Michael support his son.

Friends at the Touch of Class café at The Green in Clarence Park are now organising another charity event on April 11, from 11am to 4pm.

The day will involve raffles, a tombola, crown green bowling, face painting, and a design your own cupcake activity, with 100 cupcakes donated from Ernills Bakery.

Eleanor Melia, aged 54, from the Touch of Class café said: "I can't imagine what it must be like for the family right now.

"I know there are a lot of people out there in the world suffering from terrible things like this, but it feels different when it's someone in your own community.

"It's such a tragic story and I think it's important that we all come together and do whatever we can to help just a little bit."

Bury FC and Radcliffe Borough FC have both donated pairs of match tickets as raffle prizes, and organisers are hoping for a similar response from Manchester City, whom Stewart supports.

Mrs Melia added: "The family come in here to the café and use the park as well - it's a real community here.

"We've had a really good response to the event from everyone."
