FLYTIPPERS have targeted a quiet Bury back street by dumping bags of industrial and household waste outside the gates of a company.

Staff at scrap metal firm L&D Mortimer in Birch Street have been plagued by the problem since January with several individual incidents of flytipping.

Company secretary Jackie Howarth said: "We have second premises around the corner at the rear of Hornby Street and the flytipping has been a recurring problem since January.

"The bags were piled up in front of our gates and we couldn't get access and we had to move them to the side. We must have had about 10 bags dumped here, including building waste, household items and clothes as well as general waste.

"We assume that they selected this area because it's not on a main road. Since the problem started, I've been in touch with Bury Council on four occasions to ask them to take all the bags away."

A Bury Council spokesman said the refuse has since been taken away.
