VOLUNTEERS are being asked to join Bury Cancer Support Centre's team for the Great Manchester 10k Run.

The centre is entering a squad of runners and walkers for the event on Sunday May 10, and are on the hunt for more people to join the team.

The appeal for runners comes as the centre, now based on Bolton Road, has celebrated receiving the highest hygiene rating of five stars.

The local authority rating is in respect of the venue's kitchen and cafe which is open to visitors and volunteers three days a week

Centre spokeswoman Sue Hyland said: "The five stars takes in such aspects as cooking and how food is stored and presented. The cafe offers freshly made, wholesome, nutritious food, and allows people to meet in an informal setting where friendship and mutual support can develop."

Runners who can take part in aid of Bury Cancer Support Centre are asked to enter themselves online for the 10K run, and then contact Jeff Green, centre race co-ordinator, for further details on 07969 340568 or via e-mail at jeffgreen@hotmail.co.uk

During the day of the run, the Hilton Hotel in Deansgate will overlook the finish line where friends and family can base themselves to cheer on the team.
