The next environmental-friendly arrival at Radcliffe Metrolink Station is likely to be a new fruit and veg garden.

On Sunday, volunteers took part in a second day of work for the Incredible Edible initiative, which was launched last month after the success of other groups in the Bury area.

Incredible Edible groups grow vegetables, fruit and herbs in public gardens which members of the public can help themselves to.

The group is planning to return to the site behind the Metrolink station, off Spring Lane, in mid-May and are hopeful that the level of interest in the scheme means volunteers will be keen to set up a new branch in Radcliffe.

Organiser Mark Lockwood said: "Things are going really well. We were very lucky with the weather on Sunday and managed to get all of our work done before the heavens opened.

"We are really hopeful that some of the volunteers will take on the responsibility of running a Radcliffe group and maybe set up one or two more sites.

"The people at the Metrolink are very happy with how it's looking and we might be putting some wildflowers around the other side of the station to make it even nicer."
