HUNDREDS of people lined the streets to salute the heroes of Gallipoli today.
A 1,600 strong parade of current soldiers, reservists, veterans, cadets and relatives of men who fought in the campaign took part in a moving tribute to the fallen.
The first soldiers to arrive on the beaches during the campaign in 1915 were the Bury based 1st Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers, and dignitaries and members of the public descended on the town to pay their respects.
A memorial service was held at Bury Parish Church, and Mayor of Bury Cllr Michelle Wiseman laid a wreath at the nearby war memorial.
The role of the Lancashire Fusiliers, who famously won “six VCs before breakfast” was a particularly poignant note of remembrance.
