CHARITABLE runners are being urged to grab the last chance to enter Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life at Heaton Park, with just over a week left until registration closes.

More than 13,000 women have already joined the ‘pink army’ ready to take on the challenge on July 11 and 12, with entries closing at midnight on Friday July 10.

Organisers are encouraging women of all ages to sign up for the 5k, 10k and Pretty Muddy events as soon possible at raceforlife.org

Emma Rowlandson, event manager for Race for Life in the North West, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that so many women have entered Race for Life events in Manchester. But we still have places left so we are urging women to sign up as soon as possible.”

In 2014, 9,119 women took part in race and helped raise an incredible £472,776 for Cancer Research UK, with the charity hoping that this year's entrants will hit a fundraising target of £650,000.

She continued: “Race for Life is not competitive and it’s not about being fit or fast. You can walk, jog, or run around the course if you like because these events are all about the feelgood factor that comes from being part of the ‘pink army’ as thousands of women come together to defeat cancer.”

Entrants can boost their contribution to the charity’s work by doing a ‘wardrobe work-out’ before their event. Participants are encouraged to sort out and bag up hidden treasures such as quality clothes, books and accessories they no longer use and take them to the donation station at the Race for Life site.

Each bag of goods could help raise up to £25 in aid of groundbreaking research.
