A GROUP of friends who found a novel way of getting to their high school prom have become internet sensations.

Adam Lee, Matty Bodkin, George Greenhalgh , Jake Wright , Alex Mee and John Davidson arrived for their Castlebrook High School leavers’ party in a convoy of mobility scooters last Thursday.

The stunt proved a huge hit with their family and friends, and a video was soon picked up by website the Lad Bible – where it attracted more than three million views in a matter of days.

The 16-year-olds, who have just completed their GCSEs, will now be going on to study at Holy Cross College and Bury College in the next academic year.

John, of Ringley Road, Radcliffe, said: “It was an absolutely brilliant experience, even better than we expected.

“We knew people would get a bit of a laugh out of it, but I never imagined it would get this much attention. It’s been really mad the way it has taken off.

“Everyone thought it was a great idea and I’m so glad that we actually managed to make it happen.”

Alex’s father Adrian was the first to come up with the idea, and says seeing the teenagers’ exploits go viral on Facebook – where it has gathered over 100,000 likes and 12,000 comments – has been a surreal experience.

Mr Mee, of Plantation Grove, Unsworth, said: “We couldn’t believe it when we saw they had made the Lab Bible, it’s absolutely crazy.

“The lads were at our house a while ago and we got onto talking about the various ways they could arrive at prom, and I told them to do something a bit different. We never thought it would take off like it has.

“The reception they all had at school when they arrived was amazing. All the way along the road to school, traffic was stopping for them and people were getting out to take pictures.

“Everybody turns up to prom these days in limos and sports cars, so I think it’s great that the boys did something outside the box.

“All of us were glued to our phones and computers checking the number of views it had and watching it pass all of these huge milestones.

“It was a very strange experience watching the numbers go up and up over the weekend.”

After all the students had arrived in all their finery at the school in Parr Lane, they boarded a coach for the Dunkenhalgh Hotel in where their prom was staged.
