CAR owners are being urged to go the extra mile for a Bury charity by recycling their old "bangers".

During Recycle Week, people can donate their unwanted vehicles to Re>Build through Giveacar and the money will go to the Bury organisation.

Giveacar provides motorists with an easy and free way to get rid of their old vehicle in a legal and environmentally-friendly way. Profits from the sale are then donated to a charity of the car owner’s choice.

Re>Build's chief executive, Liz Jackson, said: “As a furniture reuse charity, we are already committed to improving the environment so we see Giveacar as a partner in this aim. The fact that we can benefit financially gives a boost to our much-needed funds.

" And with as little as £5, we can provide a day’s travel plus a contribution to a volunteer’s lunch, enabling them to learn new skills, gain references to apply for work and reduce their isolation and anxiety. The amounts raised through Giveacar can make a significant impact on our work.”

The scheme is intended to discourage irresponsible owners who may consider abandoning their car, adding pollution and destruction to the environment, whilst raising money for a good cause. Even if the vehicle is scrapped, it still nets the selected good cause between £40 and £250.

Anyone interested in donating their vehicle should contact the Giveacar Team on 0207 736 4242 or complete the form at www.giveacar.co.uk/donate
