A ROYAL Naval Reservist from Bury has been honoured for catering for the nutritional needs of soldiers and officers.

Leading Hand Iain Campbell, aged 47, serves with HMS Eaglet, based in Liverpool and was awarded the Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificate of Merit, recognised as a laudatory honour throughout the forces.

The presentation was made by Dame Lorna Muirhead, Lord-Lieutenant of Merseyside, during a ceremony at Liverpool Town Hall.

Iain heads a team of caterers at HMS Eaglet in Liverpool where he is judged to excel in the galley.

Bosses say the quality of the food is universally praised by visiting officer and civilian guests, and is a testament to Iain’s efforts and skill. He has supported numerous outreach events where his commitment has been described as invaluable, particularly during the Battle of the Atlantic 70th Commemoration in 2014.

Iain said: "It is a great honour to receive such award in recognition for the work that has been done for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.

"This award I feel is also for the support behind the scenes from, family, friends and colleagues, without which it would have been harder to complete the many tasks that have been requested throughout the North West and abroad."

Colonel Mark Underhill, chief executive of the North West of England and the Isle of Man Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association, which runs the awards, said: ‘The tireless commitment and dedication shown by Leading Hand Campbell to the Royal Naval Reserve, and the contribution he makes to the wider community, is worthy of public recognition and the award of Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificate of Merit."
