BURY College paid tribute to the best of the best at its Celebration of Achievement Awards.

The event, at the Elizabethan Suite at Bury Town Hall, recognised students for their exceptional achievements and for setting the standards of excellence throughout the college.

Visitors were welcomed by level 3 extended diploma in music student Sam Tomlins, who opened the proceedings by performing an acoustic set.

The evening was compered by Tower FM DJ Jon Holling and recognised individuals for their accomplishments across each subject area offered at the college.

The sparkles and glitz were accompanied by magician Shaun McCree who treated guests to close-up tricks as they arrived. Bury College performing arts duo Accentu8 closed the evening on a high with their upbeat performance 'All That Jazz' from hit musical Chicago.

James Abdilla, aged 17, from Bury, was awarded the Engineering Award which was supported by structural engineering company William Hare.

Former Castlebrook High pupil James, who is studying a Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering, said: “I am really proud of my achievement and feel motivated to do even better in my work. The atmosphere of the awards evening was great and it was a brilliant moment to receive my award.”

Telecommunications service provider, Pennine Telecom Ltd attended the ceremony in support of the Computing and IT award.

Pennine Telecom's HR Business and Support Manager Anne Barnes said: “It was a great privilege to attend the awards evening and witness the range of great achievers. It has certainly inspired me as an employer.”

Former pupil of St Monica’s RC High School, James Creer, aged 18, from Manchester, collected one of the Bury College Governor Awards for being active members of the college community.

A-level student James, head of the Bury College fundraising committee, said: “It has been great to be recognised for all my hard work over the past two years. The evening was amazing. I had a wonderful time and I was honoured to attend. I have had a wonderful time at Bury College and have enjoyed all the extra-curricular activities which have included attending governors meeting, trips to universities and being a part of the student action group.”
