A TEAM of female fitness fanatics had good reason to give out "high fives" when they smashed their fundraising target for a cancer charity - fives times over.

The group came together through various weekly community fitness classes across Bury, which were run by personal trainer Lauren Capper, aged 21, of Greenmount.

Lauren’s group, titled Team Capper, smashed their original target of £250 to raise more than £1,260 for Cancer Research UK on July 11.

The weekly classes in dance fitness, kettlercise, metafit, piloxing and bootcamps brought together the team of 17 ladies, of all ages and fitness levels, to compete in the Pretty Muddy event at Heaton Park.

Team member Angela Williams said: “It feels great to have raised as much as we did, it makes it all worth it.

“Everyone knows someone who’s been touched by cancer so it’s a very worthy cause.

"There was a carnival atmosphere on the day and everyone is delighted to have raised so much, through friends and family sponsorship, class collections and through the Just Giving website."

The event included a 5K run combined with an obstacle course through mud baths, inflatables, tunnels and a giant mud slide.

Team organiser Joanne Mahon, of Walmersley, who attends Lauren’s fitness classes, was still collecting donations on the tram journey home while covered in mud.
